Sports & Clash Royale Can Teach You About Money

By: Raymond Li

Most people think sports, finance, and video games have nothing in common, but they actually teach the same lessons about discipline, strategy, and patience. The article “How to Be Better With Money: 5 Lessons from Sports” explains how sports can make you smarter with money, and these ideas also fit perfectly with Clash Royale.

Defense Wins Championships

In sports, good defense keeps you in the game. In money, defense means spending less than you earn and saving for the future. For brain-rotted teens who play Clash all day, a strong defense means protecting your towers and not leaking elixir. You can’t always control how much you earn (except in Clash Royale, where both you and your opponents get the same amount of elixir), but you can control how you protect what you already have.

Focus on the Basics

The article says, “You drive for show, but putt for dough.” Flashy plays look cool, but simple, consistent actions win in the long run. The same goes for money: building savings and sticking to a budget beats risky stocks. In Clash Royale, playing high elixir cards like Mega Knight at the bridge leaves you with nothing when your opponent attacks the other lane. That is why cycle decks are better, because of their consistency.

Hard Work Beats Talent

Even the best athletes lose if they stop practicing. High earners can still go broke without controlling themselves with their money. This is the same principle that explains why you should not rely solely principle that explains high elixir cards. The P.E.K.K.A., for example, can be easily countered by the Goblin Gang. Your opponents would then be up by four elixir.

It’s All in Your Head

Bobby Jones once said sports are played “in the space between your ears.” Success in money and in Clash Royale depends on your mindset. Making a money mistake isn't the end, just like how letting your opponent get one Sparky tower shot isn’t the end of the match. Lock in to avoid making money mistakes and to get to 15K trophies.

Know Your “Why”

Every athlete plays for a reason: a championship, a dream, a goal. In finance, your “why” might be saving for college or buying a car. In Clash, it might be reaching a desired arena. Don’t lose your purpose! When you know your purpose, it’s easier to stay focused and not waste your time on distractions.

Success comes from strategy. We see this in sports, finance, and Clash Royale. Sticking to habits like planning, staying calm, and playing smart will take you far. Never forget why we Clash!
